Publication Ethics
This scientific code of ethics statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process of this scientific journal, namely the publisher, editors, reviewers, and authors. This statement of scientific publication ethics is based on LIPI Chief Regulation Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Scientific Publication Ethics, which upholds three core ethical values in publication, namely:
- Neutrality, meaning freedom from conflict of interest in publication management;
- Fairness, meaning granting authorship rights to those entitled as authors/writers; and
- Honesty, meaning freedom from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Journal Publisher
- Determine the journal name, scope of discipline, periodicity, and accreditation if required.
- Determine the membership of the editorial board.
- Define the relationship between the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and other parties through a contract.
- Respect confidential matters, whether concerning contributing researchers, authors/writers, editors, or peer reviewers.
- Apply norms and provisions regarding intellectual property rights, particularly copyright.
- Conduct a review of journal policy and communicate it to authors/writers, the editorial board, peer reviewers, and readers.
- Create a code of conduct guide for editors and peer reviewers.
- Publish the journal regularly.
- Ensure the availability of funding sources for the sustainability of journal publication.
- Build cooperation and marketing networks.
- Prepare licensing and other legal aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor
- Determine the journal name, scope of discipline, periodicity, and accreditation if required.
- Bring together the needs of readers and authors/writers,
- Work toward continuous improvement in publication quality,
- Apply processes to ensure the quality of published written works,
- Uphold objective freedom of opinion,
- Maintain the integrity of the author's academic record,
- Issue corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary,
- Be responsible for the style and format of the written work, while the content and all statements within the written work are the responsibility of the author/writer,
- Actively seek the opinions of authors, readers, peer reviewers, and editorial board members to improve publication quality,
- Encourage evaluation of the journal when findings warrant it,
- Support initiatives to reduce research and publication misconduct by requiring authors to attach an Ethical Clearance form approved by the Ethical Clearance Commission,
- Support initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics,
- Assess the effects of publication policy on the attitudes of authors/writers and peer reviewers and improve it to increase responsibility and reduce errors,
- Keep an open mind toward new opinions or others' views that may conflict with personal opinion,
- Not defend their own opinion, that of an author, or a third party in a way that could lead to non-objective decisions,
- Encourage authors/writers to make revisions to their written work until it is fit for publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Reviewer
- Receive assignments from the editor to review written works and submit the review results to the editor as material for determining the suitability of a written work for publication.
- Reviewers must not review a written work in which they are involved, whether directly or indirectly.
- Protect the author's privacy by not disseminating the results of corrections, suggestions, and recommendations, while still providing critique, suggestions, input, and recommendations.
- Encourage authors/writers to make revisions to their written work.
- Re-review written work that has been revised according to established standards.
- Review written work in a timely manner according to the publication's house style, based on scientific principles (data collection methods, author legitimacy, conclusions, and so on).
Duties and Responsibilities of the Author
- Ensure that everyone included in the list of authors/writers meets the criteria for authorship.
- Bear collective responsibility for the work and content of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and their details.
- Declare the source of resources (including funding), whether direct or indirect.
- Explain the limitations of the research.
- Respond to comments made by peer reviewers professionally and in a timely manner.
- Inform the editor if intending to withdraw the written work.
- Provide a statement that the written work submitted for publication is original, has never been published anywhere in any language, and is not currently under submission to another publisher.
